“Blotter: A Film Noir on Acid”
Synopsis: A hardboiled investigative journalist-turned-true crime podcaster investigating an urban legend about a deadly batch of LSD uncovers a tangled web of conspiracy and soon finds himself part of the story.
Shooting set to begin Late Summer through Fall 2022
Roles Available:
OLIVIA M. (Late 20s to Early 30s). Serious, professional, principled. A bit tired. Works in the criminal justice/social work sphere, dresses accordingly. Looks and lives a basic life (at least it would appear on the surface). Has troubled romantic history with lead. Ideally picturing a blonde woman for this (Portia Doubleday type), but open to other possibilities.
KEVIN (roughly 19-22) Young, gay, Asian. Enterprising, opinionated, independent. His trade is in tabloid/gossip photography and research: skills at which he excels. Pointlessly enrolled in a journalism program (to both appease and spite his parents). Gets college credit for an “unpaid internship” side gig driving around and running errands for true crime podcast host.
CAPTAIN BYKOWSKI (middle-aged) Police Captain. Many years on the force rising through the ranks. Corrupt, or at least willing to overlook corruption if it’s too much of a hassle/distraction to his career ambitions.Comes off as a regular guy, but has an intimidating edge.
MARCUS HILL Police. Former homicide detective settled into a desk job in evidence management. In a lot of debt from his barely-secret gambling addiction. Makes ends meet taking bribes from the true crime podcast host in exchange for insider info on cold case crimes. Picturing an older black man (a Brent Jennings type) but open to other possibilities.
JASON FULTON (Black Male, mid 20’s) Brief non-speaking role; but critical nonetheless! The investigation into his disappearance is what kicks off the whole plot.
JERRY LUCIFER (Male, 40s-60’s) Sleazy nightclub manager with criminal history. Picturing a Larry Fessenden-type, or a ponytail-skullet & mustache, pinky rings and cigars type.
“LUCY” (Female, 20’s, any ethnicity) Pretty but eerie. Has a spooky otherworldly quality that can be mistaken for troubled innocence, but this works as a mask for her cold, calculated power.
ALEJANDRO DEBOLMCHEK (Male, 60s+) Acid chemist. Certainly mad, but not evil: though his work has left his mind open and vulnerable to be used as a tool for evil. *Ability to do a vaguely european accent preferred, but not required.
JESSE CULDA (Male, 20’s) Skinny Deadhead type. Ideally longer hair. Psychedelic drug dealer, but likes to pretend he’s just a specialized deliveryman.
DRUG DEALER (Male, any age) Basic street dealer, works from a corner under the Frankford El.
DETECTIVES 1 & 2 As yet unnamed Police detectives. Open to whatver for these.
