Carnelian is a new musical for the screen written and directed by Lex Brown, and co-composed and produced by Samuel Beebe. With original music spanning genres of folk, soul, electronic, classical, and pop, Carnelian is an eclectic fable about human archetypes. Carnelian will premiere as a video installation at the MIT List Center, and will be open to the public daily from April 4 – July 16 2023.

Bicyclus, Necyria, Orachrysops are three symbolic figures – Air, Fire, Earth – representing different aspects of humanity and society. In three Acts: Dawn, Day, and Dusk, they grapple with the impending arrival of the unknown, represented by a body-shaking Boom(Water). Their songs focus on the perils of authoritarian control, environmental harm, and ubiquitous technology, ultimately to find an outcome of optimism and resilience despite the many troubling circumstances of today’s world.

All characters can be played by any gender with a special emphasis on casting BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ actors based in Philadelphia, PA. Must have a great voice! All roles are paid a flat rate of $1000 for the project.
