This film is about a relationship between two people who are separating. Charlie, 20-30 East-Asian and any gender, has an existential crisis and quits their job to buy a one-way ticket to China. Taylor, 20-30 any race and any gender, is Charlie’s partner and they are not happy to see them go. The film is about the tensions between the two, the ways that the separation affects each of them. It is subtle, think Past Lives or Aftersun.

More about the characters:

CHARLIE: to-the-books kind of person until they have an existential crisis and books a one-way trip to China. Should be Asian, a commentary of Asian cultural expectations. They vlog as a way to process their feelings. Starting to get into East Asian philosophy. They have a lot of awareness with their life problems, which they try to process while they suffer from insomnia. Their disposition is a bit pessimistic, but also full of love and care for TAYLOR. They want TAYLOR to stay together with them while they are in China.

TAYLOR: also professional, and has lived life on a script. Can get upset at CHARLIE, but in a loving manner. Willing to talk back and interrupt. More artistically sensitive and also more practical than CHARLIE. They have been together for a long time (unspecified, but let’s say 2 years). Processes difficult emotions mostly by sitting down and being depressed. Though they love CHARLIE, their main conflict is whether the two should stay together while CHARLIE is in China. TAYLOR sees themselves as independent and don’t want to wait around for a year for someone so impractical. On the other hand, they really do love CHARLIE….

You can audition for both or one of them.
