ABOUT: Film Futures provides young aspiring BIPOC filmmakers (ages 18-24) the opportunity to produce their original narrative films from script-to-screen under the mentorship of professionals. This 6-month fellowship provides access to equipment, funding, and mentorship for early-career emerging filmmakers to create their debut short film. The films will premiere at the annual Big Picture Alliance film festival in June 2023.
TITLE: SPELL OF REFLECTION
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A psychiatrist holds a case study involving a pill that unlocks hidden memories and reunites a father and son. This film has an estimated runtime of 12-15 minutes.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
Kyle (early 20s, Black, Male) [2 SHOOT DAYS]
Kyle is a worn out college student struggling with his childhood identity and life path. He’s struggled with abandonment issues his whole life, resulting in him feeling unfulfilled, unmotivated, and pessimistic. Mentally and Physically disorganized.
Dave (45s-50s, Black, Male) [2 SHOOT DAYS]
A disheveled recovering alcoholic father attends a focus group to make peace with his deep regrets. His deepest regret; missing out on his son’s formative years.
Young Kyle (5-7, Black Male) [1 SHOOT DAY]
A young kid who enjoys playing with his toys. Quiet, reserved.
Young Dave (30s, Black, Male) [1 SHOOT DAY]
A disheveled father struggling with PTSD and alcohol abuse. Serving in the Marine caused David to struggle with alcohol abuse and PTSD during his son Kyle’s childhood. David would have outbursts of anger daily towards Kyle’s mom.
Tamika (30s, Black, Female) [1 SHOOT DAY]
Although she looks put together and trendy, her relationship with her husband, David, is falling apart and causing her stress. Aggressive and independent, she’s even more heart broken when the relationship falls through.
Christina (Mid 20s,White/Asian,Female) [1 SHOOT DAY]
Sophisticated, judgemental
James (Mid 20s,Black,Male) [1 SHOOT DAY]
A laid back friend of Kyle’s, James is usually under the influence of recreational drugs. He always seems relaxed.
Alexis (Mid 20s,White,Female) [1 SHOOT DAY]
A serious, but sensitive person. Dresses in a goth aesthetic and lives in their own world. Comfortable in their own skin.
Dr. Murphy (40s, white, Male) [1 SHOOT DAY]
An eccentric scientist that does case studies on a time traveling/memory pill. He is not only knowledgeable and confident, but also conveys an expressive nature around his experiments.
