The 17th annual Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival opens on Thursday, November 7th, through Sunday, November 17th.  You are invited to experience films that inspire thought, spark conversation, and reflect the richness of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander experience.  Over 100 films from 25 countries across Asia, U.S. and Canada.  There is something for everyone.
GFPO is proud to co-present the centerpiece documentary, You Don’t Have to Go Home, But along with Visit Philadelphia and Scribe Video Center on Saturday, November 16th at 5 pm hosted at Moore College of Art & Design.  The film is an ode to dancing bodies and a grimy love letter to Philadelphia. A story about what to do when the DJ has played the last song, the club’s lights have come on and you gotta go…somewhere. Following three dancers at different stages of their lives, with legendary Philly dance party Second Sundae as the backdrop, this documentary film examines the possibility of spiritual fulfillment in a socioeconomic configuration that ultimately doesn’t value the practices that make us free. The film is directed by a Philly filmmaker, Aidan Un who will be on site along with other subjects from the film  for a post-screening Q&A.  There will also be a Pre-screener, b another Philly filmmaker David Huang. His film, Rock Springs is a fictional retelling of the Rock Springs Chinese Massacre of 1885, in which over 30 Chinese miners were killed by their white counterparts in a labor dispute in Rock Springs, Wyoming.  Check out the full festival schedule and ticket information at www.paaff.org!
