KIDS AUDITION NOTICE✨

Sawubona Creativity Project Theatre for Performance Art & Education is seeking child performers (ages 9-14) to play various roles in a student written play that will be performed during Philly Fringe 2024.

Play Title: The Great Bakersfield Pie Mystery (The Joe Play)

About the Play: Joe, a Pie Maker in the town of Bakersfield is preparing for the town’s baking contest. Joe is a shoe in to win the contest until someone sneaks into his bakery and sabotages all of his pies. Tag along with Joe and his best friends Lucy, Roxanne and Ronald as they embark on a journey through Bakersfield to try to uncover the culprit.
The Great Bakersfield Pie Mystery (formerly The Joe Play) is a brand new, original work written by former Sawubona Creativity Project Theatre Arts students in grades K-3.

What started as a playwriting lesson grew into the wonderful story of Joe, the kindly Pie Maker and his faithful friends.

????Audition Date/Time: July 3, 2024 (3:00pm-6:30pm) children will be asked to read lines from the play, no experience necessary. Rehearsals are Sunday afternoons 12pm-1:30pm.
Show Date: September 7, 2024 @ 2pm
Location: 1935 E Passyunk Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19148
Compensation: $65 stipend (paid out on show date via check)

CAST OF CHARACTERS
JOE: boy, Pie Maker, owns a bakery in the town of Bakersfield, NY; kind and helpful, cares a lot about his town, friends and other people; well liked by others. (already cast)
JOE: understudy
LUCY: girl, Joe’s best friend; friendly, tech savvy
RONALD: boy, Joe’s money manager and friend, smart, protective of Joe
ROXANNE: girl, suspicious of most people, silly and fun
MRS. RAINBOW FRIEND/OFFICER BOB/SAM: boy/girl, one actor plays all 3 roles, each character is very different in voice and style
REPORTER: end of play, reports on the Pie Contest (already cast)
