Hello USA is a visual album showing an experimental interpretation of a “Homecoming Marching Band Performance” representing the internal conflict African Americans have in regards to where do we find home?

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
This is a student project, so while we have a vision for each character, we understand adjustments may need to be made based on the talent available.
Below are the preferred character descriptions:

LEAD
PIN
Age: 18–20 years old
Ethnicity: African American (preferably dark-skinned)
Description: The protagonist of the story. Physically or emotionally, he should appear “vulnerable,” whether through a slimmer build or a timid demeanor. Despite this, he overcompensates by acting tough—an effort to project a stereotypical idea of Black masculinity rather than embracing his true self.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS

COACH
Age: 40–50 years old
Ethnicity: African American
Preferred Traits: A bearded man with glasses.
Description: A mentor-like figure who brings experience and authority to the story.

POLICE OFFICER
Age: 30–35 years old
Ethnicity/Gender: Open to all.
Description: A supporting character representing authority in the story.

UNCLE SAM
Age: 40s–50s
Ethnicity: (preferably) White
Preferred Traits: Grey or white hair with facial hair (beard), dressed in the iconic American suit.
Description: Appears intermittently throughout the story, with a prominent role in a key scene transitioning between the second and third acts.

DEAD SOLDIER
Age: 20s
Ethnicity/Gender: Black (gender doesn’t matter)
Description: A symbolic figure who appears ominously throughout the story, mainly in the first and second tracks.

THE BAND
Requirements:
Open to Black actors of all skin tones, heights, sizes, genders, and sexualities.
Description: A diverse ensemble representing the breadth and depth of Black identity, contributing to the story’s overarching message.
