IMMEDIATE ROLE FOR AN EXPERIENCED FREELANCE INVESTIGATIVE PODCAST PRODUCER
We have an excellent opportunity to bring on an experienced and driven investigative journalist with proven national reporting experience in the areas of civil rights, law, and extremism to join our team. Experience in producing original, ambitious narrative long-form documentary storytelling either as video or podcasts is a must. This role would be working with the EP’s, hosts, editorial and production staff of the successful and popular audio documentary series, Sounds Like Hate, now entering Season 3.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research,identify, and develop original ideas for serialized documentary and investigative podcasts with both internal and external partners based on sources, documents and other journalistic tools
Simultaneously work on major, long-term projects, as well as short deadline pieces.
Book and conduct pre-interviews, create research decks, and write questions
Report and write original investigative stories and scripts maintaining the highest standards for accuracy, fairness and newsworthiness.
Cultivate sources and make use of reporting tools like FOIA, database acquisition and analysis and data mining to uncover original stories that matter.
Monitor public documents, court records, and databases
Record, gather or identify sounds elements to turn each investigative piece into a rich and memorable audio experience
Structure narrative across multiple episodes, edit tape, help write and assemble mixes for edits and mastering
Take on other duties to ensure success of the series or special projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
College degree and 5-8 years of professional journalism experience
A history of producing sophisticated, high-quality journalism, including work on complex topics and story ideas
Demonstrated excellence in long-form storytelling and narrative writing, to include work on enterprise stories under long and short deadlines
Excellent communication and organizational skills, public speaking ability and demonstrated writing ability
Agile, organized, self-starter with tenacious producing skills in the field and in the office
Bonus if experience with editing software either ProTools, Adobe Audition, or Premier
Ability to handle multiple complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions
Ability to work efficiently, calmly and cooperatively with colleagues and partner organizations
Ability and willingness to travel and work varied shifts occasionally
