“The inmates at Hanneman Penitentiary have dreams…the bad kind. Any prisoner who spends an extended period of time behind bars at Hanneman reports having nightmares, tales of true despair and horror. After a series of deaths and other unfortunate incidents, the state ruled that their stories had to be heard. This is Penitent.”

Penitent follows a “freak of the week” type format with an “A story” and “B story”, in the same vein as shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, Supernatural, and Grimm.

Actors that are rejected may be considered for other roles or future roles if this series continues.

CAST

SEEKING ACTORS TO PLAY THE FOLLOWING ROLES

Narrator: Narrator needed for the intro at the top (the paragraph in quotation marks). Intro may or may not be used for future episodes.

Cassidy Bostaph: 20-45. Female. Any race/ethnicity. The new Correctional Officer at Hanneman. Has prior corrections experience, but is thrown for a loop when she learns about her unique responsibilities at Hanneman. VO has to be able to switch between quiet strength, reluctance, and intrigue.

Rate: $25/episode

Warden Ray Kerry: 45-60. Male. Any race/ethnicity. The big man at Hanneman. Easy to frustrate and quick to anger. Blows up at Cassidy in the beginning. Think someone with a voice and demeanor similar to Vince McMahon.

Rate: $15/episode

Sergeant Tommy Lombardo: 50-75. Male. Caucasian. The gentle foil to Warden Kerry’s hyper-aggression, Lombardo is a self-deprecating man that helps show Cassidy the ropes at Hanneman. Speaks with some sort of regional accent (Delco preferably).

Rate: $15/episode

Andrey Holt: 30-50. Male. Any race/ethnicity. Andrey Holt is the “dreamer” of this episode. Initially too depressed to talk, but is coaxed by Cassidy into opening up.

Rate: $5 flat

Tara: 18-30. Female. Any race/ethnicity. One of the subjects of Andrey’s dream. Is initially very good friends with Ellis, but grows apart from him due to his “addiction.” VO has to be able to portray both a 7th grade Tara and a post-college Tara.

Rate: $10 flat

Ellis: 18-30. Male. Any race/ethnicity. The other subject of Andrey’s dream. A nerdy little kid who has a habit of eating silica gel packets. Thinks the habit is normal, much to the chagrin of Tara.

Rate: $5 flat

News Reporter: 20 – 60. Any gender. Any race/ethnicity. Delivers a straightforward news report.

Extras: 20-70. Any gender. Any race/ethnicity. May be assigned to play other prisoners, school-children, and/or other minor characters.

CREW
Script Continuity Supervisor: Will assist in pre-production by analyzing scripts and ensuring narrative continuity. Will also help build a story bible.

Rate: $25/episode

Recording will be done remotely, so VOs must have access to their own recording gear. Roles are open to nationwide submissions, but preference may be shown to VOs from the 5-county Philly area and South Jersey.

Rejected applicants may be considered for future roles.
