PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION (log line / synopsis): “Founding Further: Reclaimed Stories of American Independence” will empower BIPOC, queer, and underrepresented Philly creatives to uncover the largely untold stories of underrepresented historical figures involved in our nation’s founding, then amplify and celebrate those stories throughout their Philadelphia communities. This interactive multimedia storytelling campaign is centered around the goal of exploring a more diverse, inclusive, and accurate narrative of our nation’s founding figures. This documentary will focus on key events that shaped the life of James Forten. We will examine his background and childhood, his rise to prominence and wealth, and how he used his wealth and influence to shape and impact the country he lived in. We will also delve into the process of history to question why figures such as James Forten have been neglected.
