Event Details

The Philadelphia Film Society (PFS) is proud to announce the partners of its second annual Movies on the Block season.  This year’s annual summer screening program kicks off on August 20, 2016 and will be hosted in every corner of Philadelphia.  This free seasonal initiative is designed to support established community organizations in neighborhoods that have little access to film by providing film programming and facilitating engagement.

The program’s lead partners are selected through a public application process coupled  with demographic and cultural asset information as reported by CultureBlocks, a free mapping tool that supports decision-making about place and creativity in Philadelphia. Lead partners collaborate with main partners— all groups already deeply involved within each community— to ensure diverse participation and successful program delivery. Some community partners will be returning for their second year.

Throughout the summer, partners will work with PFS to develop Movies on the Block events in collaboration with other community leaders, stakeholders, and organizations. Each Movies on the Block event will feature a screening of an outstanding film paired with interactive community partner activities, performances, educational demonstrations, giveaways and more. In a new, cross-event partnership for this year, PFS will work with Yoga on the Banks to provide free “Yoga on the Block” sessions before each film, in order to promote an accessible, healthy lifestyle. All events are free and open to the public.
