FirstGlance Film Fest Philly 12 (www.firstglancefilms.com),Philadelphia’s Independent Film Festival since 1996,is holding its 12th annual indie film fest from Thursday, October 22nd to Sunday, October 25th, 2009 at Franklin Theater in The Franklin Institute, 222 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

Screening First Night, Thursday, October 22nd

Benjamin Pollock Pollack attended Temple University and is a Writer/Director/Producer originally from the Philadelphia area who owns Benvention Films Inc. in Los Angeles His “Dark Room Theater” is a double feature in the vein of The Twilight Zone about ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary, usually supernatural, situations, using both ironic and comic twists. Starring Keith Blaney, David Stanford, and Rose Rossi from “10th & Wolf.”

Ryan O'Laughlin – O’Laughlin has produced and directed six short films and written one feature length screenplay. Melancholamorbusis his thesis film from Drexel University.  Drexel recognized the film with awards for Best Director, Best Senior Project, Best Sound Design and the Audience Award. A depressed young man, Max, discovers that he will die in three hours unless he finds the physical embodiment of his happiness.

Joseph Krzemienski attended Hussian School of Art and is Principle, Animation & FX Director at Postage VFX and Director/ Producer at theFictory Productions in Lancaster, PA.  Krzemienski‘sanimated“American Terror: Company Man”is aboutVictor Sheppard, a man who can't be bought, fighting to save a world were everything is for sale in a forsaken country, where profit is the only law.

Screening Friday Night, October 23rd

Kathilynn Phillips – A multi-award-winning Writer/Director/Producer, Phillips operates her own production company, Kat Scratch Films, in the Philadelphia area.  Her motion pictures have screened to thousands in festivals around the world and garnered many awards. Her most recent film, making its Philadelphia Premiere, “Chasing the White Dragon,” is a feature film about six small town meth addicts.  It was First Place winner for Best Screenplay at Rhode Island’s International Film Festival, Winner Best Ensemble Cast at FirstGlance Film Fest Hollywood 9, and Winner for Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Kennedy at Trail Dance Film Festival.

Screening Saturday Matinee, October 24th

John Foley and Steve Newbert - The Color Bearers,”a documentarywritten, directed, edited, and co-produced by the Philadelphia born and raised pair,is hosted by Vince Papale and features the personal stories that reveal the meaning of the American flag and patriotism from Betsy Ross in 1776 thru the 21st century as told by average Americans. Foley attended Temple University and “The Color Bearers” is his feature documentary directorial debut.Newbertis the principal owner and operator of Philadelphia area based AOV Productions.

Nardeep Khurmi directed and stars inthe short film In Search of Aztec Gold which was Shot in Philly. Facing an ultimatum and stuck in a mid-life funk, Indian American fledgling writer Jayinder Shah searches for direction and finds inspiration in the most unlikely of places; a Philadelphia diner at midnight.

Laurie SeidmanSeidman is a graduate of Temple University originally from the Philadelphia area who currently serves as Producer on CBS’s hit drama “Medium.” She produced the shortfilm“ABUELO”by Mary Ann Kellogg, Winner of the Audience Award at Nantucket Film Festival, about a 12 year old girl left in the care of her Argentinean grandfather and the bond they form.

Christopher Toppino is a Philadelphia area filmmaker. Rob Stuart & Tara Nurin are local directors and producers. Stuart is thefounding President of Evolve Strategies and the Evolve Foundation and Nurin is a Writer/Producer/Publicist for print/television journalism, non-profit organizations and businesses.  Their documentary,Free the River Park,”the story of citizens’ fight for the Schuylkill River Park,was Shot in Philly and features Mayor Michael Nutter.

Annie Heckenberger & James Bartolomeo are local producers and directors whose short film is Peter Arthur – Smells Like Hope –- You know how you can fall in love with a waitress when you are twelve because she serves you the most perfect piece of shoofly pie, then ten years later you buy a pumpkin-orange scooter with a sidecar and go on a quest all over Pennsylvania to find that waitress, only you don‚t have a picture of her, just a bag of little ceramic heads you made of her head by memory? This is that kind of story.

Screening Sunday Twilight, October 25th

Joe Medeiros has been working as an independent documentary filmmaker and a television writer for NBC Entertainment.  Heis the Owner at Midair Rose Productions and is writer/segment director at The Jay Leno Show.  Medeiros attended Temple University and his film, “Friends of Independence,”about a group of dedicated volunteers who work withIndependence Hall National Park in Philadelphia - the site where we became a nation and the home of the Liberty Bell was Shot in Philly.

Greg Koorhan – Koorhan is a Writer/Director/Producer at thePhiladelphia-based production company Crossbow Studio.  His film “Tripping Up,”shot entirely on the Main Line, isabouta clumsy teenager, on the walk to pick up his date who has second thoughts that he may be out of his league.
